  • Mt Gravatt Community Centre

    The Mt Gravatt Community Centre can be accessed by all members of the community in a diverse number of ways; individually and groups.  There is a place and space for everyone. Activities and groups include painting, crochet and knitting group, card making, English conversation, computer lessons, sewing group, music groups and senior’s social group.

    The Mount Gravatt Community Centre have plenty of regular events and activities you can get involved in, and we’d love to see you there. Follow the Facebook page to see “What’s On”.

  • Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS)

    The scheme involves volunteers visiting older people to provide friendship and companionship.

    Older Australians who may not have regular contact with friends or relatives, or are feeling isolated from their culture or community, can be referred by an aged care service provider to a volunteer visiting network member in the local area.

    It is also possible for older Australians receiving government-funded aged care services to refer themselves.

    If you are interested in requesting a volunteer visitor, use this enquiry form via their website. Alternatively, you can download and complete a referral form to send directly to your network member for a quicker referral.

  • ARMIA - Active Refugee & Migrate Integration in Australia

    A community-based non-profit organisation of highly qualified, experienced, and truly multicultural staff and volunteers who are passionate about supporting new Australians of any cultural background to gain relevant knowledge and skills, enabling them to integrate sustainably into the Australian society. ARMIA promotes socio-economic participation and combats social isolation. ARMIA is registered with the ACNC (Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission) as a charity to benefit refugees, migrants and asylum seekers by advancing health, education, social or public welfare and culture.

  • Autism Adventures

    Autism Adventures supports and guides Autism Positive People (APP’s) into living meaningful and fulfilling lives. We can help you make the most of life, your way. Everyone gets to choose how to engage, they can relax, be themselves, and try out the social communication skills in a safe supported space. Parents and carers get to connect with people who have shared their experiences too.

  • Beyond DV

    Post-crisis domestic violence services. Offers personal development workshops, support groups, education support programs, camps, and many more to women and children. Beyond DV also helps survivors find employment through their Paloma Placement program.

  • Brisbane City Council Gentle Exercise Classes

    Seniors gentle exercise classes. Classes are suitable for anyone. Some bring their own hand weights, others use body weight. Class runs for an hour, but usually 40 minutes of exercise after time for breaks. Everyone works to their own level of ability. Bookings are essential and online booking and payment are encouraged. For those unable to book online, they can ring or text Liz and pay on the day (Liz has a card reader with her for EFTPOS). The group is very warm, welcoming and inclusive and Liz has seen many make social connections.

  • Brisbane City Indoor Sports - Indoor Cricket

    Social Indoor Cricket in teams – Games are played on Wednesday nights between 6pm and 9:20pm. Brisbane City Indoor Sports also offers indoor basketball, soccer, dodgeball, and netball. The games are on Wednesday nights and game times are between 6pm and 9:20pm. Age ranges of players are between 18 years of age and 60 years of age. We currently run Cricket on Wednesday evenings from 6pm-9:20 and is $105.00 per game and the season is 16 weeks. There is an additional seasonal registration fee of $105.00. We have all required equipment onsite that can be borrowed.

  • Brisbane Southside Blind and Low Vision Support Group

    This is a social and support group for anyone who has low vision or blindness. The group meets every second Monday of each month at 9.30am in the community meeting room at the Garden City Library, Garden City Shopping Centre, Upper Mount Gravatt. Any visually impaired person and friend, support worker or carer are welcome to attend and enjoy a chatty morning and express experiences that are causing concern. Tea and coffee will be served. Guest speakers are organised when possible. Contact Peter on 07 3345 7421 for further information. If you wish to come along there is no need to book, you can just turn up.  Cost: $3 for the morning tea and $10 for yearly membership.  First visit is free.

  • Brook RED

    Brook RED is a peer-operated community supporting holistic recovery from a mental health concern located in Upper Mount Gravatt. It is an entirely Lived Experience governed, managed, and operated organisation. This means that everyone who works at Brook RED identifies as having a living-experience of recovery and that we use the unique perspectives and knowledge gained from this experience as the foundation for all of our work. They understand that recovery is about all aspects of personal and social life and that it is different for each person. For this reason, there centre at Mt Gravatt offers a range of peer-support options including recovery-focused activities, groups, workshops, excursions, and one-on-one peer support. 

  • Brush Strokes & Beyond ART GROUP

    The “Brush-Strokes and Beyond” Art Group currently meet at the Mt Gravatt TAFE every Thursday morning commencing at 9am through to 12:30pm with a break for morning tea at 10:30. The group is open to any person who enjoys painting in any medium whether it be Oils, Acrylic, or Watercolour and enjoys exchanging ideas about different techniques of painting. There is no formal instructions about how to paint, as the group consists of Artists who enjoy painting in a group setting and having social contact with like minded people.  It does not matter if you are a beginner or have lots of experience at painting you will find this group will meet your needs. Group has been running for about 10 years. Mixture of male/female, mostly older participants.

  • Carina Men’s Shed

    Men’s social group. Daily activities includeLeadlight/Artisan Glass Work; leatherwork; metalwork and woodworking. Special Group activities – Music Group (Corrugated Shedders – Monday afternoon); art/drawing (Wednesday morning); Cards; Exercise Groups (Monday & Wednesday); Glampers group; Wine appreciation group; Guest speakers on Monday mornings.

  • Carina Senior Citizens Club

    Carina Senior Citizens Club provides a welcoming environment to seniors, offering a wide range of activities six mornings per week. They welcome people to come to the venue, make new friends and get out of the house to prevent social isolation and loneliness. The Club describes itself as a “happy group”. Carina and District Senior Citizens Club Inc offers a wide variety of activities including indoor bowls, darts, table tennis, cards, bridge, craft, art classes, painting, tapestry, crochet, patchwork quilting, bingo, line dancing, square dancing, old time and new vogue dancing and concerts, a library, a talent group and trivia. Several bus trips are organised each year. A welfare officer is available for club members.

  • Claire’s Cottage

    Four main services: Short term respite accommodation (3 bedroom home catering for upt to 4 participants to sleep over); Day program (life and independent living skills); weekend social and community activities (day trips, parties, bbqs and weekends away); In-home services (personal care, chores, escort to social activities, support for in-home sleepovers with friends or carer night away).

  • Coorparoo Quilters

    Group of quilters and crafters (around 30 – 50 people) from all over Brisbane. Group has been running for around 30 years. They hold charity days once per month also and have quilting exhibitions once a year.

    When/ Where: 1st and 3rd Wednesday Nights at Lower Community Hall, Mt Gravatt Showgrounds. Arrive any time after 6:30pm for a 7pm meeting.

    Bring yourself, your sense of humour and a coffee mug for supper. Tea, coffee and biscuits supplied. First meeting free. If you have some patchwork or quilting you have finished recently, bring it along for show and tell.

  • CPLUSCo Badmington

    Social badminton where people come in and enjoy a few games. Generally people form their own games but they can provide assistance with this if needed. Badminton rackets are supplied as well as shuttles. Located at Southbank TAFE Les Allan Sports Hall – Life Science Building (A) 14 Glenelg St, South Brisbane QLD 4101 (Corner Merivale and Glenelg St, opposite Brisbane Convention Centre).

  • Fishability Qld

    Fishability QLD aims to offer a broad range of fishing related activities that will build the confidence and skills of participants, offer opportunities to develop lasting friendships and broader social groups, and have fun. Community fishing events are held once a month at various locations across Brisbane. No cost to go along, but the BBQ lunch is a $5 donation. Fishing equipment (rods, bait etc.) is supplied but you are welcome to bring your own! 

  • Garden Club Information

    The Mt Gravatt Garden Club is a social and competitive garden club that meets the 3rd Thursday each month except in November and December. The meeting starts at 10am but members start gathering at the Showgrounds from 8am. Each meeting involves a plant competition, guest speakers, sharing and selling cuttings and a lucky door prize and finishes at 12noon on the dot. There are usually 100 people in attendance each week and membership costs $30 for the year. On the 4th Thursday of each month there is a field trip to a garden somewhere around South East Queensland for $25 to $45 each time. Members are generally retired and enjoy the friends through competition culture. New attendees can attend for three times before being asked to join as a member.

    Cost: Membership is $25.00 per year but new members need to pay an additional one-off charge of $10.00 for their name badge. Bus trips are extra (usually ranging between $25 to $45)

  • Qld Contract Bridge Club

    Bridge club providing beginner lessons through to competitions. The Queensland Contract Bridge Club (QCBC) is one of the longest established bridge clubs in Brisbane and Queensland. We have a membership of over 600, and conduct sessions six days a week and three nights a week. The QCBC has long been regarded as the club to play in if you are seeking a strong game or trying to improve. We have an extensive library of over 400 separate titles that are available for loan to members at no charge. Located at Woolloongabba.

  • Heart Fit

    General to moderate exercise sessions for Seniors. Classes across various locations in Brisbane including Mt Gravatt Showgrounds. Improved balance, renewed energy, increased strength, prevent disease, more confidence, increased bone density, better mobility, defy dementia. Very welcoming environments. Each week is different type of exercise however all exercise focusses on strength (using light weights), stretch bands. They also have chairs for balance. All equipment supplied. Free trial available. Your ongoing commitment is just $10 per session,  when purchasing a 5-session pack ($50) or 10 session pack ($100), or $11 per session to pay as you go.  The session packs do not have an expiry date.  

  • Hibiscus Sports Complex

    Has a 50-metre, Olympic-sized, outdoor pool. It has shade at the shallow end and heating during winter. It also has two indoor heated pools, a 12-metre pool for learn to swim, and a 25-metre pool for recreation and fitness. There is also a 20 metre long twisting waterslide. The pools and slide sit among landscaped grounds. The complex offers learn to swim classes, squad swimming and group fitness classes. Swimming classes from 3 month old babies to adults classes available through Rackley Swimming. There is a health and fitness club and kiosk onsite. 

  • Inner Wheel (part of Rotary)

    Women’s social group that meets every month at the Holland Park Hotel. Inner Wheel is an international women’s organisation that promotes true friendship and passion for community service. When you join the organisation, you will become part of a network of like-minded women in over 100 countries worldwide.

  • Living Uniting Church

    Various social groups and activities including a “Coffee, Craft Chat” group, Mansfield Melody Makers- choir, indoor bowls, men’s society, Keenagers– women’s group, and a Soul Sister– younger women’s social group as well as a variety of groups for kids and youth.

  • Madeline Stuart Dance Company

    Madeline Stuart Dance Company a NDIS registered charitable organisation based in Brisbane. It is run by Rosanne Stuart, who has strong business and community ties in Brisbane, nationally and overseas. They offer dance classes and workshops available to children, teens, and adults with diverse abilities, providing them with opportunities to learn in a variety of dance styles, fitness, drama etc. and to receive on stage performance experiences. 

  • Mansfield Melody Makers

    Non-auditioned community choir. Anyone who wishes to share the love of music and singing is most welcome. There are no auditions and we follow the belief that ‘if you can talk you can sing.’ You don’t need to be able to read music or have ever sung before. 

     

  • Margaret Coates Exercise Classes for Women

    Gentle exercise classes for women of all ages. Covers exercise for strengthening, balance, fitness, flexibility and fun. Bookings are essential for the free classes. Contact Margaret to book. Email Margaret on ichiphysio@gmail.com to gain access to the term timetable. 

  • Metro Community Hub

    Metro Community Hub specialises in supporting older people to maintain their independence, and stay connected to their community. We believe that forming and maintaining connections to neighbours, friends and the community is important throughout the whole lifespan, so our activities focus on people over 50.

  • Mt Gravatt East Swimming Pool (Sam Reilly Swim Centre)

    Gentle aqua exercise, aqua aerobics, indoor and outdoor heated swimming pool. Fees are $5.70 for concession card holders, $6.90 for adults and $5.15 for children (pool entry only). Aqua aerobics class is $17.50 for an adult and $16.50 for a concession. Discounts apply for 10 and 20 class passes. Concession 10 Pass $152. Aqua aerobics class is $17.50 for an adult and $16.50 for a concession.

  • Mount Gravatt Bowls Club

    A club that welcomes everyone who would like to play bowls or just have some fun with some friends for a game of Barefoot Bowls. Games are played on most days at various times. Contact the club to find out details for specific days. Contact Graham – 0408 752 544 & Club 3349 2367. Bowling Membership application is $25. Yearly membership fee is $120 and then it is $17 each game.  Lunch is served 11am – 2pm, Tuesday – Sunday and Dinner is served 5pm – 7:47pm, Wednesday to Saturday.   • Mt Gravatt Environment Group

    Join a local Bushcare group for a relaxing time in the bush and help bring birds, butterflies and koalas back to our mountain. Exercise in healthy fresh air venues. Meet interesting people and wildlife. Weeding of bush area.

  • Mt Gravatt Men’s Shed

    The Mt Gravatt’s Men’s Shed promotes a strong interest in woodworking, woodturning, carpentry and welding. Interest groups also exist in the shed for members such as darts, guitar, cooking, computing, card playing, gardening, leatherwork, photography , art and travel. Open to men 18 years and over, their main objective is to improve the health & wellbeing of men who are at risk from preventable health issues that may originate from isolation. The shed is a friendly and relaxed place with plenty of time for a cup of tea and a chat with other members. No matter what your skills, you will be welcome at the Shed.

  • Mt Gravatt Pain Support Group

    This is a local peer-led group under Chronic Pain Australia focused on providing support and encouragement for those managing chronic pain. The group promotes self-management techniques and evidence-based treatments for living with pain.
    When & Where: Meetings take place on the 4th Tuesday of every month, 12pm – 2pm, in Meeting Room 1 at the Garden City Library, Mount Gravatt. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday the 27th of January.

  • Musically Speaking

    Group for every day people who are interested in music. They meet once a fortnight from 7-9pm and have a Tuesday group and Thursday group at the Mount Gravatt Community Centre. This is not a singing group or playing instruments but a music appreciation group. Contact Peter on 0408 756 763.

    PCYC Carindale was built in 1998 and is Carindale’s local community club for members of all ages. We pride ourselves on offering affordable activities and fostering an inclusive community spirit, inspired by our dedicated staff.

  • PCYC Mt Gravatt

    Police-Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC) Queensland is a leading provider of youth and community programs, services and facilities. PCYC Queensland offers activities and programs for all ages and all levels. From outside school hours care to gymnastics, boxing, dance and martial arts. They also offer activities for the 50+ age group such as thai chair, gentle fitness classes and yoga.

  • Playgroup Queensland

    Playgroup Queensland supports in excess of 12,000 families in metropolitan, regional, rural and isolated communities through the State by offering early years’ programs and services that strive for optimal child well-being and development. By promoting learning through play, we build parenting skills and connect families to create strong and sustainable communities. Playgroups are informal and relaxed weekly get-togethers of  mums, dads, grandparents, carers, children and babies.

  • Probus Club of Holland Park Central

    Social group for retirees. Probus provides you with the opportunity to join together in clubs and to progress healthy minds and active bodies through social interaction and activities with retirees in your community. Probus opens the door to new experiences and friendships, you can hear wonderful guest speakers, stay active by participating in a wide range of activities and explore your community, your country or the world.

  • Seniors Exercise Groups for Women

    Gentle Seniors exercise classes for women are available at St Bartholomew’s Church Hall, Cnr Logan & Mountain St, Mt Gravatt and Tarragindi Uniting Church Hall, 24 Pope St, Tarragindi. They are also available at Mt Gravatt PCYC, 90 Klumpp Rd, Mt Gravatt. All classes involve gentle exercise variations, and some involve working with chairs. Classes at the PCYC are free as they are sponsored by Brisbane City Council and must be pre-booked by contacting Margaret Coates on 0421 314 392.  Other classes allow one free visit for people to decide if it suits them. Participants just need to bring a water bottle and clothes suitable for exercise (e.g. not thongs or dresses). Email Margaret on ichiphysio@gmail.com to gain access to the term timetable. 

  • Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre

    The Centre responds to the needs of the local community through community development work and provision of a range of services such as information and referral, crisis support, and community education in order to facilitate and enable personal and social development. A variety of group activities are held at the centre to cater to the needs of the community.

  • SNAP Fitness Mt Gravatt East

    SNAP Fitness Mt Gravatt East is a fully equipped, 24-hour gym conveniently located in Mt Gravatt East. They currently offer three membership plans, including two flexible, no lock-in options. Memberships start from $15.95 per week, with no joining or access card fees as part of our January promotion (offers vary each month). They also have pre-paid memberships and casual visit options available. Clients referred through the Mount Gravatt Community Centre will be provided a two week free trial. 

    All new members receive a complimentary induction with the Club Manager, which includes: 

    • Guidance on safe equipment use 
    • Introduction to basic exercises 
    • Assistance to set up a personalised training program using the free SNAP app to support individual goals 

  • Social Tennis (Southside Uniting Church)

    Social tennis every Saturday afternoon. A group of competent group of players play social tennis on Saturday afternoons and pay a $5 donation towards the church (the tennis courts are on the grounds of the St Mark’s Uniting Church).

  • SOLACE Australia

    SOLACE Australia provides grief support for those grieving over the death of their partner. Talk or listen, in a non-threatening environment, to others who have been through the trauma of losing their loved one through death. The meetings on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month are for the grief support group but this group also has a social lunch each month on one of the other Thursdays of the month.

  • Southside Board Game Club

    This is a group for people who enjoy meeting people and playing some board games. They predominantly meet at Carindale Library and Garden City Library  

    Cost: $2 to attend

  • Southside Community Craft Circle

    We knit, crochet, sew and follow other crafty pursuits to make items to be distributed to help our Queensland disadvantaged. All items the group makes donates them to kids in crisis or care or they sell at stalls to raise money to purchase materials for the group. They now meet monthly at Fairfield library 1st Tuesday 1-3pm, Coopers Plains library 2nd Wednesday 10-12.30pm and 5th Saturday 9-12pm, Wynnum library 3rd Friday 12.30 – 2.30pm, Holland Park Library 4th Saturday 9-12pm and Sunnybank Hills library 4th Friday 1-3.30pm. They support Care Kits for Kids Qld, Rosies Friends on the Street and Logan House Fire Support Network.   

  • Southside Uniting Church (Mt Gravatt) - SAGE Group

    Social Activities for Everyone 

    Social Activities Group for Everyone (SAGE) – FREE group for the community, held at Southside Uniting Church, 46 Springwood St, Mt Gravatt East, every Wednesday of school term from 9:30-12.  

    Group leaders share their expertise in the following areas: Art, Craft, Crochet, Knitting, Card Games, Mah-Jong, Sewing, Table Games, Mosaics, and English Immersion. Children are welcome and have their own activities. Morning tea is provided. Contact person – Carolyn 0468930050. Open to all age groups. They also offer 1 on 1 IT lessons during this time. 

  • South West Metro Pirates Basket Ball

    Based at the Hibiscus Sports Centre on Klumpp Rd the South West Metro Pirates Basket Ball Club have activities on offer for everyone. You can try out casual shooting and make some friends daily at times that are announced on the FB page here. There are also regular social competition events that are posted on the Facebook page.   • St Mark’s Luteran Church

    A culturally diverse community of believers. They offer children’s music group, senior’s morning tea and games, and family and youth camps. 

    St Mark’s Lutheran Church Mainly Music Group 

    Babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and carers will be treated to music, activities and interactions, structured and unstructured fun. Each session is designed for delight as you participate together. You’ll experience a rich learning environment. 

     

    Sessions cost $5 per family, which includes morning tea, tea and coffee, and run every Monday and Friday of the school term, with the exception of the first Monday and last Friday of the term. Doors open at 9am, and music session starts at 9.30am. No need to register ahead of time, and just pay as you go, so just come and join the fun.

    St Mark’s Lutheran Church Open Door Group 

    Open Door is a very welcoming, caring, sharing group where everyone supports each other. It is aimed at our senior members and friends are always welcome. 

     

    We meet in the hall every second and fourth Tuesday, starting at 9.30 with morning tea, washed down with lots of chatter and laughter. Then we play many varieties of card or board games until 11.30. Come along, and make some new friends we would love to see some new faces.

    Stay n Play is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming playgroup for parents, grandparents, carers, and children aged 0–5 years. The program runs Monday to Friday, and during some school holidays, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. 

    Harmony Club – Social Support & Centre-Based Respite
    The Harmony Club provides social support and centre-based respite services for eligible older people and younger people living with a disability. The program aims to enrich participants’ lives by encouraging social connection, wellbeing, and community participation. 

    Social Groups
    St David’s offers a variety of relaxed and friendly social groups designed to bring together people with shared interests in a safe and supportive environment. These groups are a great way to meet new people, build connections, and learn new skills.
    No enrolment is required — simply come along. Morning tea is provided.

  • The Men’s Shed

    Mt Gravatt’s Men’s Shed Inc. promotes a strong interest in Woodworking, Woodturning, Carpentry and Welding. Interest groups also exist in the shed for members such as Darts, Guitar, Cooking, Computing, Card Playing, Gardening, Leatherwork, Photography (new sites added), Art and Travel. Open to men 18 years and over. Their main objective is to improve the health & wellbeing of men who are at risk from preventable health issues that may originate from isolation.

  • The University of the Third Age

    A worldwide self-help organisation promoting learning for personal enjoyment and wellbeing. The University of the Third Age (U3A) promotes lifelong learning through engaging activities and making new friends. U3A offers a wide variety of classes online and in person across different locations, including Logan, Southside, Northside, Westside, and Wynnum as well as online. 

     

  • Whites Hill Bush Walks

    The White Hill Pine Mountain Community Group have two dog friendly walks in Camp Hill and Carina. They also hold bush care meeting usually 3rd Sunday of each month in Whites Hill Reserve, Carina (usually meet at corner of Jones Road and Kildare St, Carina but may change to other entry points.) Heather is you main point of contact via  heather.barns@bulimbacreek.org.au. 

  • Woolloongabba Board Game Club

    Love playing board games and want to enjoy that with others? Come along to our club that meets on Saturday afternoons. The Woolloongabba Board Game Club meet at the Mustard Seed (861 Stanley Street, Woolloongabba). This group is held on the last Saturday of each month from 2pm to 5pm.  Free to attend. 

  • Upbeat Arts

    Several creative programs under the Upbeat Arts organisation, tailored to people with mental health concerns. Must have a mental health diagnosis or letter from health care professional demonstrating the program would be beneficial to the individual’s mental health. Mainly for people with disabilities. All programs are currently online.

    Upbeats have a South Brisbane choir and writing group.

    Choir

    Our programs are delivered primarily for the benefit of adults experiencing a mental illness. Members can attend at no cost – however we ask applicants to include on the application form, basic details of their mental health diagnosis and information about who is supporting them and/or who the referring organisation is. This might be a clinician from Queensland Health, a support worker from a non-government mental health service, or details of support being received from your GP, another mental health, disability or drugs and alcohol support service.

    Writing Group

    These creative writing sessions are held in person, or if you can’t make it in, there’s an option to join in online. Each workshop is an individual session, so if you miss a week or two, you won’t be disadvantaged – come back when you can. Of course, the more you can attend, the more you will learn and develop as a writer.

    Word on the Street is a creative writing course that will help you find your voice on the page. Working with a professional teacher, nothing will be left blank as we cover poetry, letters, short form writing, spoken word, and storytelling. Your teacher is Claire Christian – an award-winning author with several books published!
