Details of some of the local community groups, clubs and activities are below. Click on their names to go to their websites.

If you are interested in finding a faith group in your local area you can check this list of faith groups such as Mosques and Churches for ones in your suburb.

  • PCYC Mt Gravatt

    Police-Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC) Queensland is a leading provider of youth and community programs, services and facilities. PCYC Queensland offers activities and programs for all ages and all levels. From outside school hours care to gymnastics, boxing, dance and martial arts. They also offer activities for the 50+ age group such as thai chair, gentle fitness classes and yoga.

  • SNAP Fitness Mt Gravatt East

    Fully equipped 24 hour gym located at Mt Gravatt East. Option to hire a personal trainer and/or use the Sam Riley swimming pool next door. They are currently have an offer for seniors to join the gym at a 20% discount which is $11.90 a week. There are pay as you go options, no joining or exit fees,  and 2 complimentary coaching sessions with an individualised program to follow.

  • Fishability Qld

    Fishability QLD aims to offer a broad range of fishing related activities that will build the confidence and skills of participants, offer opportunities to develop lasting friendships and broader social groups, and have fun. Community fishing events are held once a month at various locations across Brisbane. No cost to go along but the BBQ lunch is $3 and drinks are $1. Fishing equipment (rods, bait etc) are supplied but you are welcome to bring your own!

  • Heart Fit

    General to moderate exercise sessions for Seniors. 14 classes across various locations in Brisbane. Improved balance, renewed energy, increased strength, prevent disease, more confidence, increased bone density, better mobility, defy dementia. Very welcoming environments. Each week is different type of exercise however all exercise focusses on strength (using light weights), stretch bands. They also have chairs for balance. All equipment supplied.

  • Mt Gravatt Environment Group

    Join a local Bushcare group for a relaxing time in the bush and help bring birds, butterflies and koalas back to our mountain. Exercise in healthy fresh air venues. Meet interesting people and wildlife. Weeding of bush area.

  • PCYC Carindale

    Police-Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC) Queensland is a leading provider of youth and community programs, services and facilities. PCYC Queensland offers activities and programs for all ages and all levels. From outside school hours care and KinderGym for the younger years, to gymnastics, boxing, dance and martial arts, Blue Light discos for young people with disabilities.

  • Hibiscus Sports Complex

    Has a 50-metre, Olympic-sized, outdoor pool. It has shade at the shallow end and heating during winter. It also has two indoor heated pools, a 12-metre pool for learn to swim, and a 25-metre pool for recreation and fitness. There is also a 20 metre long twisting waterslide. The pools and slide sit among landscaped grounds.The complex offers learn to swim classes, squad swimming and group fitness classes. The Rackley Swim Club is on Fridays from 5.30-7pm. There is a health and fitness club and kiosk onsite.

  • Walking Netball

    It is netball, but at a walking pace. It is for all ages, fitness and abilities. It is about fun, fitness and friendship. All ages game on Wednesdays at 7pm and Mondays at 10am. Over 60’s games on Mondays at 10am.

  • Mount Gravatt Bowls Club

    A club that welcomes everyone who would like to play bowls or just have some fun with some friends for a game of Barefoot Bowls. Games are played on most days at various times. Contact the club to find out details for specific days.

  • Seniors Exercise Groups for Women

    Gentle Seniors exercise classes for women are available at St Bartholomew’s Church Hall, Cnr Logan & Mountain St, Mt Gravatt and Tarragindi Uniting Church Hall, 24 Pope St, Tarragindi. They are also available at Mt Gravatt PCYC, 90 Klumpp Rd, Mt Gravatt. All classes involve gentle exercise variations and some involve working with chairs. The classes at the PCYC are free as they are sponsored by Brisbane City Council and must be pre-booked by contacting Margaret Coates on 0421 314 392.  Other classes allow one free visit for people to decide if it suits them. Participants just need to bring a water bottle and clothes suitable for exercise (e.g. not thongs or dresses).

  • South West Metro Pirates Basket Ball

    Based at the Hibiscus Sports Centre on Klumpp Rd the South West Metro Pirates Basket Ball Club have activities on offer for everyone. You can try out casual shooting and make some friends daily at times that are announced on the FB page here. Entry fees are $4.80 for students and concession card holders and $5.60 for adults. On Fridays there is also a ladies session at 10am where you can go make friends and do some practice. Competitions take place in the evenings where you can come with a team or ask for help to find a team. The womens competition happens on a Tuesday night from 6.30pm while mens happen on Wednesdays from 6.30pm and Sundays from 3pm to 9pm. Competition players all pay $10 per week.   • Mt Gravatt East Swimming Pool (Sam Reilly Swim Centre)

    Gentle aqua exercise, aquaerobics, indoor and outdoor heated swimming pool. Fees are $4.80 for concession card holders, $5.80 for adults and $4.10 for children (pool entry only). Aquaerobics cost: $14.00 per class, $13.50 for concession card holders. Discounts apply for 10 and 20 class passes.

  • CPLUSCo Badmington

    Social badminton where people come in and enjoy a few games. Generally people form their own games but they can provide assistance with this if needed. Badminton rackets are supplied as well as shuttles. Located at Southbank TAFE Les Allan Sports Hall – Life Science Building (A) 14 Glenelg St, South Brisbane QLD 4101 (Corner Merivale and Glenelg St, opposite Brisbane Convention Centre).

  • Social Tennis

    Social tennis every Saturday afternoon. A group of competent group of players play social tennis on Saturday afternoons and pay a $5 donation towards the church (the tennis courts are on the grounds of the St Mark’s Uniting Church).

  • Brisbane City Council Gentle Exercise Classes

    Seniors gentle exercise classes. Classes are suitable for anyone. Some bring their own hand weights, others use body weight. Class runs for an hour, but usually 40 minutes of exercise after time for breaks. Everyone works to their own level of ability. Bookings are essential and online booking and payment are encouraged. For those unable to book online, they can ring or text Liz and pay on the day (Liz has a card reader with her for EFTPOS). The group is very warm, welcoming and inclusive and Liz has seen many make social connections.

  • Active Lifestyles

    Facilitates day trips and outings for people over 65 in the Sunnybank Hills to Cannon Hill area (transport provided, pick up and drop off).

  • Brisbane City Indoor Sports - Indoor Cricket

    Social Indoor Cricket in teams – Games are played on Wednesday nights between 6pm and 9:20pm. Brisbane City Indoor Sports also offers indoor basketball, soccer, dodgeball, and netball.

  • Margaret Coates Exercise Classes for Women

    Gentle exercise classes for women of all ages. Covers exercise for strengthening, balance, fitness, flexibility and fun. Bookings are essential for the free classes. Contact Margaret to book.

  • Able Anglers

    Professional fishing respite service provider. Uses fishing to decrease symptoms of depression, increase mood, and increase interest in everyday activities.
